Upon graduating from the University of Sydney in 1985 with a Bachelor of Economics and a Bachelor of Laws, Robert became Associate to the Honourable Mr Justice Munro of the then Conciliation & Arbitration Commission (now the Fair Work Commission) for two years. 

Robert was admitted as a solicitor in 1988, joining the firm Clayton Utz, Sydney. He practiced in the litigation department of Clayton Utz for a further two years.

Robert was called to the Bar in August 1991. His principle areas of practice are employment law, industrial law as well as work health and safety prosecutions. Robert is regularly briefed by trade unions including the Construction, Forestry, Maritime, Mining and Energy Union (CFMMEU) and the Australian Rail Tram and Bus Industry Union (RTBU). He often appears for these clients in relation to a broad variety of disputes in the Federal Court of Australia and the Fair Work Commission.

As well as appearing on behalf of trade unions, Robert has a committed practice in protecting employees work health and safety rights, being briefed by SafeWork NSW and previously WorkCover NSW in the District Court and the Industrial Court of NSW.

Robert has a passion for sport, avidly following cricket, Australian Rules and rugby league. He has recently taken up lawn bowls after retiring from marathon running with a PB of 3 hours, 21 minutes and 58 seconds.
